If you want to donate, there are two basic categories that could happen in: donating equipment and donating money.
As for donating equipment the easiest way is if you know someone who is flying to Accra, Ghana and who you can give the equipment to personally. That way we can meet you at the airport and avoid having to pay taxes on the equipment.
If you want to send it in a package, we have to tell you that the Ghanaian post office will charge almost up to 100% taxes on the value of the package. So if you donate equipment that way please calculate for that cost, since we mostly can't pay it ourselves. Our adress is: Basketball Unite, c/o Andy Jude Edzie, KLM Playground, Community 4, Tema, GHANA.
For money donations there are two ways. One is to send money through pages like Remitly.com, that will charge your debit or credit card or you can use the SOFORT service. It should be sent as mobile money to: Andy Edzie, +233 54 316 2564 (MTN). Choose Education as a reason. Mobile money is a very common system for payment in Ghana, as people commonly pay with their phone or withdraw money at so-called "cash-out"-services.
We are currently working on the second way which is a Ghanaian bank account linked to a German PayPal, since Ghana is blacklisted from PayPal. This solution should be coming soon. Thank you for your patience.
We have cooperated with a few different individual persons and companies as well, some more on a regular basis than others. Our most known cooperation is probably with German basketball brand Kickz.com. They supplied us with jerseys and basketballs on a number of occasions. Thus they appear most on our social media, web presences and by now also other teams in Ghana know Kickz.com from our jerseys.
If you want to cooperate with us we aprecciate it very much, since you are helping our cause and a lot of children in influencial phases of their life who would otherwise go without that goodness. What we can offer in return is our heartfelt gratitude, the feeling of having done something actually meaningful and social media exposure of your brand.
We are not yet ready - but we are planning on being in the near future - to host volunteers who want to work with us in Tema, Ghana. You would be assisting us in our day to day business in coaching, bringing the kids to games and back, acquiring funds and cooperations as well as social media coverage. We will be ready to host volunteers once we can provide adequate accomodation.
In an ideal world you have experience and/or formal training in coaching and playing basketball, working with children, networking and social media/web campaigns. You would be asked to pay for your expenses yourself. We will guide you through the steps that have to be taken, to aquire flights, visa and thelike. You would be staying with us in Tema, so there are no worries to be had about your safety and having a cultural introduction as well as a social network of people around you.
If you are from a european or north american country, we will also ask you to be mindful of international relations, the history and today's power balances between the "global north" and the "global south", as well as a bit of the history of Ghana.
